Biography
Multi-media artist Kwang Cha, known in the gallery as K.C., is a native of South Korea. K.C. has combined her philosophy of life with her American training to create a vibrant world of color and image. K.C. makes the following statement about herself: "My paintings are a window to my spirit. Painting is a transcendental experience for me. My art translates the hieroglyphics of my life. My soul is a combination of nature and nourishment, East and West. Painting is a central part of my life. It gives me freedom, and also gives me a sense of calmness and serenity; it's meditative. For me, painting nature is the most expressive communication possible between Otherness and myself. I feel that I am in communication with Nature when I am painting, whether it's of trees, flowers, clouds, or other organic forms. Painting gives me a great deal of happiness. I will continue to seek beauty and to express the beauty in me."
Travel is as much a part of her lifestyle as is her love of painting. New York, Chicago, New Mexico, Florida, Florence, Venice, Pont-Aven, Amsterdam, Pusan, Beijing are some of K.C.'s favorite travel destinations, and these locations figure into many of K.C.’s pieces. Kwang Cha received her M.F.A. in painting from Indiana State University. She received her B.F.A. from Herron School of Art, where she majored in painting with a minor in drawing. During the Summer of 1995, she attended the Pont-Aven School of Art, in Pont-Aven, France. During the Summer of 2000, she attended Hunan Normal University for Art in Changsha, China. She has taught figure drawing at Herron School of Art, and she has taught painting at the John Waldron Arts Center in Bloomington, Indiana. K.C.’s artwork has been exhibited in many different places: South Korea, France, New York, Illinois, Florida, Kentucky, and Indiana.
